Fancy Dress at the Carnival

The Fasnacht Carnival has a reputation that's right up there alongside the Rio Carnival and anything the Caribbean has to offer. Every year around February and March, the whole city of Lucerne assembles with vistors from all around to form a big, samba-heavy party.
Street parades are supplemented with theatre and masked bands known as Guggemuusige, along with a rather large number of jovial people in fancy dress. The vibe is lively but laidback and a warm welcome is invariably extended to travelers in the bars across the city.
