Things to Do in Spain

This Moorish palace complex is riddled with fountains, gardens and stunning carvings. But it's as impressive outside as it inside and there are few more breathtaking sights than the Moorish palace of the Alhambra set against the snowy backdrop of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Gaudi’s cathedral is a soaring modernist masterpiece. Although work was started in 1882, it remains unfinished – not that it in any way prevents the onlooker from seeing the full wonder of his vision.

The Prado Museum is one of the largest and most prestigious art galleries in the world. In amongst its thousands of masterpieces, a handful of masterpieces by El Greco, Velazquez and Goya stand out in particular.

It may not be quite as well known as Granada’s Alhambra, but the Mezquita is equally magnificent. With its enormous striped arches, the interior of Cordoba’s 10th century mosque is truly one of the wonders of the world.

Much of the southern Spanish city of Seville is impossibly romantic. But it’s the area of Santa Cruz - all narrow streets, tinkling patios and quiet squares - that’s the jewel in the city’s crown.
