Things to Do in Malaga
Want to know some of the standout things to do in Malaga? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...
1. Eat, eat, eat!
Malaga has a well-deserved reputation for serving excellent cuisine - especially their signature fritura malaguena, or fried mixed fish. It’s good everywhere, but for the best quality, head out to the suburbs of El Palo and Pedregalejo.
2. Mill around the Museo Picasso
Picasso is Malaga’s most famous son and his museum is home to an impressive collection of over 180 original works (purchased from the artist's daughter-in-law). The museum is located in a beautiful 16th century mansion, which is a work of art in itself.
3. Be Awe-struck by the Alcazaba
Built around 1060, the Alcazaba is the most important remnant of Moorish Malaga. Recently refurbished, the structure looks terrific and provides amazing views of the town below. There's free admission on Sundays after 2pm.
4. Pasaje de Chinitas
For a window into early 20th century Malaga, check out this intriguing corner, tucked behind the Plaza de Constitucion. In the 1920s and 1930s, this narrow street became a meeting place for artists and writers, bullfighters and singers; these days it's surrounded by a couple of good places to eat.
5. Paseo del Parque
Take a relaxing stroll on a summer night down this palm-shaded avenue. You’ll discover a beautiful botanical garden and captivating architecture as well as the Fuente Genovesa, a fountain built during the Italian Renaissance.
