Events and Festivals in Spain
Whether it’s a local party or a massive national festival, nothing’s more frustrating than missing out on major events on your travels. To make sure you’re at the most exciting events in Spain check out the HostelBookers roundup of what’s happening when. We’ve got the lot covered!
The Calm Before the Storm
Running of the Bulls - San Fermin - Spain
When: 06 July 2009 - 14 July 2009
From 6th to 14th July, thrill-seekers and party-goers flock to the normally quiet town of Pamplona for the most macho event on the global calendar: ‘el encierro,’ or the Running of the Bulls.
For those not foolish enough to stand in front of a 120 stone bull, there’s still an opportunity to hide behind the big wooden fences and peer at the blur of limbs and horns.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, San Fermin continues to enrage animal protestors around the world. Those who want to take a stand can particpate in the Running of the Nudes; a (naked) human-only race that occurs a day or so before the festival starts.
For everyone else, there’s nothing to do but stand in the grey light of dawn, nervously waiting before hurtling through the streets pursued by massive, angry beasts… San Fermin really is completely unlike any other festival in the world!
Where, after all, can you drink all night long before singing an ode three times and pitting your wits against enraged bulls? And that really is the name of the game; nothing is safe here, but stories are certainly assured…
