This island, best known for holding Nelson Mandela, is historically and emotionally rooted in modern South African history. It would be a crime to miss touring this prison.

The V&A Waterfront is pretty, but on the pricey side. Travelers on a budget, however, will love bargaining in Greenmarket Square’s flea market, and its trendy surrounding area.
