Things to Do in Bratislava

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Bratislava? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Eat, Drink and be Merry!

Whether the city’s inhabitants like it or not, these days, Bratislava is firmly on the European party map. The streets off the Korzo in the Stare Mesto (Old Town) are full of atmospheric little bars and restaurants, while later on, the area surrounding Obchodna has any number of places open late.

2. St. Martin’s Cathedral

Despite its rather uninspiring location (next to a busy main road) St. Martin’s is one of the oldest and most impressive buildings in the city. Consecrated in the 15th century, it has witnessed the coronation of countless Kings and Queens of Europe.

3. Get to Know Your Methods of Medieval Torture!

For something a little less weighty, deep down in the bowels of the City Museum, there’s a rather gruesome (but fun) exhibition of implements of medieval torture.

4. Clamber up to Bratislava Castle

A castle has stood on the top of the hill overlooking the city for well over a thousand years. While the present version is only moderately interesting, the views from the top are absolutely stunning. On a cloudless day, you can even see as far as Hungary and Austria.

5. Have some Halusky

If you’re looking for some typical Slovakian food, look no further than halusky, the national dish. A dumpling served with sheep’s cheese (called bryndza), halusky are absolutely delicious.
