1. Kalemegdan Fortress
This impressive looking structure (built on the site of a series of ancient fortresses) contains the city’s Military Museum and boasts excellent views across the River Sava and the Danube. The park that surrounds it is also an excellent place for an afternoon stroll.
2. Check out the Clubs
Belgrade has been getting a bit of name for itself in recent years as Eastern Europe’s capital of nightlife. Bars and clubs line the streets around Strahinjica Bana and on the boats that sit on the river in Zemun.
3. Have a Coffee on Kneza Mihaila
In addition to its smart shops, Kneza Mihaila, the city’s main street, is lined with cafés. To get a flavor of what everyday life in Belgrade is like, order a coffee and sit and watch the world go by.
4. Stroll around Skadarlija
Belgrade’s Bohemian district is a charming mishmash of old shops, cafés and the occasional gallery. Its cobbled streets are also home to some of the city’s better restaurants.
5. Idle around on Ada Ciganlija
Marooned in the Sava River, Ada Ciganlija is Belgrade’s favorite retreat. Pebble beaches, cafés and bars amongst shady wooded areas and all sorts of sports facilities and activities make it easy to see why.
