Edinburgh's Hogmanay - Scotland

When: 29 December 2009 - 01 January 2010

The organizers of Hogmanay claim it's the best New Year's celebration in the world and few in Scotland would argue with that! Thousands of people descend upon Edinburgh for Hogmanay every year and, with it televised live across the UK, it has become something of a British institution.

The New Year celebrations involve a candlelit concert, street concert and fireworks display, alongside a street party that inevitably lasts until the early hours. Usually rather worse for wear, revelers sing Auld Lang Syne to each other amidst wild dancing.

On New Year's Day, revelers traditionally partake in a (surprisingly popular!) run or watch the Dogmanany, a blend of dog games and races.
