Burns Night - Scotland

When: 25 January 2010

Here’s one for the lovers of good food, whiskey and poetry! Scotland’s favorite bard, Robert Burns, was born on January 25th 1759. Today, two and a half centuries later, his birthday is still celebrated by folk across Scotland.

A traditional ‘Burns Supper’ is a highly structured affair with numerous toasts, speeches, food and drinks courses and poetry recitals wheeled out at various pre-planned moments. You’re also guaranteed to hear a song or two by the local bagpipe brigade who add to the truly Scottish feel of proceedings.

On the surface, Burns Night may not look as raucous as a Love Parade or as colorful as a Mardi Gras celebration. But make it to the end of the night and take a good swig of a decent malt and a good time will be assured!
