Things to Do in Edinburgh

Culturally speaking, few cities in the world can match Edinburgh in August, when the city is filled with a variety, quality and energy of performance that’s quite dazzling. From high class theatre to the Fringe, there’s plenty to keep all art-lovers happy.

Like many an ancient city, Edinburgh’s got its fair share of spooky stories. The catacombs that run under the Royal Mile are famous for housing any number of restless spirits. And during the early 19th century the infamous grave robbers Burke and Hare plied their gruesome trade here.

Arthur’s Seat is a long-dormant volcano from where (legend has it) King Arthur watched his army defeat the Picts. Now, rising high above Holyrood Park, it makes a perfect vantage point from which to sit and take in the views.

Find yourself a cozy corner in one of Edinburgh’s top-class pubs, and sample Scotland’s national drink.

Where once those accused of witchcraft were drowned, now all is peaceful. A great centrally-located spot in which to have a bite of lunch – when the sunshine finally pokes through the clouds, that is!
