Krakow’s Old Town is one of the largest in Europe and, given its labyrinthine nature, getting around can be a little confusing at first. As such, the best thing to do on arriving at Belice Airport is get a cab to your hostel. It’s only about 12km from the city center and fares are, generally speaking, pretty reasonable.
There is an airport train, however, with the journey to Dworzec Glowny PKP (the central station) taking about 20 minutes. Rail connections with other parts of Europe will also arrive and depart from here.
Once you’ve reached the city center and wandered around a little to get your bearings, things generally become clearer and trams and buses provide a cheap, comprehensive way of exploring. Tickets for the tram should be bought (from a newsagent or kiosk) before getting on as inspectors tend to be particularly hot on anyone attempting to skip a fare.
Since Krakow is quite compact overall, cycling also proves a viable transportation option. Hiring a bike here is cheap and cycle lanes make road riding safe and relatively carefree.
