A Guide to Eating and Drinking in Manila

A Local Manila Delicacy

The eating, drinking and nightlife in Manila are everything you'd expect from a modern city teeming with 20th century architecture, cosmopolitan influences and more than just a dash of Asian color.

The first thing you notice about eating and drinking in Manila is that the food could hardly be any more international. Prominent influences range from Chinese and Indian to Spanish, all of which is invariably elaborately prepared and served with consumate care.

Makati itself is actually the city's financial center, or central business district, and it's here that the real evening buzz can be found. The district is just 20 minutes from the airport, and so perfect for finding a welcome beverage on arrival.

Makati is an area popular with expatriates who live and work in the city, so it has a really international flavor. This has the additional consequence of attracting high class shopping malls like the Rockwell Centre, as well as the most expensive Manila hotels.

Though the district is a fun and lively one, particularly when the sun goes down, it can give a misleading impression to visitors as it's a hugely wealthy area in comparison to some of Manila's other quarters.

The city is used as a base by many to explore the surrounding area, and this is reflected in the general feel of Manila nightlife. Approaching urban chaos it may be, but look beyond the surface and it's hard not to fall in love with this authentic Philippino gem after dark.
