Getting Around Auckland: Transport Tips and Advice

Transport in Auckland

Auckland International Airport is about 21km southwest of the city and the airport shuttle bus is the quickest way to the city center. It’s not expensive and you can even get a discount depending on which hostel you’re staying at.

Despite not being a particularly large city, the best way to get around Auckland is by bus. Auckland recently introduced the City Circuit – a free bus service that hits many major inner city points.

The Link bus also does a loop through the city in an hour and stops at several major attractions including the Auckland Museum, Victoria Park, and Auckland University. The Stagecoach charges by the number of ‘stages’ traveled and is a cheap and flexible option. One thing to beware, though, is that buses stop running around 11:30pm so you'll need to plan accordingly on a night out.
