Queen's Day - Netherlands

When: 29 April 2010

Although the national holiday is celebrated throughout the Netherlands on the 30th April to commemorate the Queen's offical birthday, its in Amsterdam that they throw the street party to rival all street parties! Over a million people arrive in the city as it’s turned upside down in a vivid splash of orange revelry.

Prinsengracht and Rembrandtplein have live music during the day whilst Vondelpark is popular with families for the kids’ games, workshops and performers which are run as part of the event.

Queen’s Day is also the one time where you can sell literally anything on the street in the Netherlands so you'll find various markets spring up around the city's streets.

Most hostels in Amsterdam are located centrally, making them ideal for tourists wanting to make the most of the Queen's Day celebrations, but why not check out Apartments Leidse Amsterdam, which offers free city tours and is just a few minutes’ walk from most of the major attractions, restaurants, and night-life.
