Things to Do in Namibia
Want to know some of the standout things to do in Namibia? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...
1. Fish River Canyon
Fish River Canyon (after the Grand Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world), was eroded into its spectacular present day form. While for the hardcore hiker there’s a five day trekking route available, for the less brave, a safari route is just as exiting.
2. National Botanical Gardens, Windhoek
11 hectares of plants and other wildlife make this a relaxing break from the busy capital city. It’s home to indigenous plants such as the Aloe Littoralis flower and features a desert house showcasing rare plants from the Namib desert.
3. Alte Feste, Windhoek
This building harks back to the country's colonial roots. Used as a strategic fortress, its colored brick facade was a specific (and painstakingly pursued) requirement of its design. Today it houses the National Museum, which details Namibia's culture and history.
4. Namib Desert
Traversing the world's oldest desert is not recommended without a guide, but fortunately there are several lodges set up specifically for visitors. By day, it's home to dune-based activities including quad biking and dune-surfing; by night, the starry sky makes for a truly awe-inspiring spectacle.
Amongst Damaraland's many natural wonders the Vingerklip 'Rock Finger', and, dotted with crystal, rose quartz and Amethyst mines, Burnt Mountain and Goboboseb Mountain stand out.
