World Music Rhythms
Gnaoua World Music Festival - Morocco

For most of the year the coastal town of Essaouira is a peaceful place. Then June comes around, bringing with it the Gnaoua World Music Festival, thousands upon thousands of excited fans and some absolutely fantastic music.
Celebrity enthusiasts down the years have included Orson Welles, Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger. Brand new acts continue to perform at this event, and many stars of tomorrow become keen supporters of the festival.
The site where it occurs has recently been named a Universal Patrimony Site by the United Nations: there are nine stages for headline acts, plus two large outdoor stages that are free to the public. There are also acoustic tents and small outdoor stages that provide a highly intimate viewing of some of the very best world music out there.
