Overview to Monaco: Travel Guide and Tourist Information

Monaco

From a backpacker’s perspective, the problem with Monaco has always been that most of the other holidaymakers who head here are of the rich and famous variety. So with that in mind, what can Monaco offer the budget traveler and how can they deal with its inflated prices?

Well as it turns out, there are numerous sights here that don’t involve paying too much. The Prince’s Palace, for example, perches on the top of Monaco’s hillside and provides great views over the principality.

Equally, the Avenue Saint-Martin is a must for the traveler on a budget. This coastal stretch features well-groomed cliff-side gardens and passes the Monaco Cathedral – a white brick building where Grace Kelly and members of the Royal Family are buried.

And since Monaco is such a tiny place, anywhere can be easily accessed by foot from the beach (although it’s a pretty steep climb). Indeed, parts of the town - such as the engaging Fort Antoine Theatre ruins - can only be reached on foot.

As you’d expect, Monaco’s shoreline is as glitzy as it is sun-kissed. There’s no astronomical cost attached to lounging on a beach, however, and a day or three can be well spent seeing how the other half live – and perhaps doing a bit of star-spotting on Larvotto Beach.
