San Marcos National Fair

 A Bull Prepares to Fight

San Marcos National Fair - Mexico

When: 18 April 2010 - 17 May 2010

Up to seven million people turn out each year for the eruption of national pride at San Marcos, Mexico's national fair. Over the three weeks leading up to the 25th of April, the streets of Aguascalientes are immersed in eating, drinking and general merriment.

The main attractions of San Marcos (regardless of how you feel about it) are its bullfights and cockfights. With roots that stretch back to the 17th Century, San Marcos began as a livestock market and, to this day, it continues to focus upon animals in one way or another.

Bullfights happen frequently over the three weeks in the Monumental Aguascalientes, a massive bullring capable of housing over 15,000 people. Rodeos and ox displays complete the program.

For those not into such activities, there’s still plenty to see during San Marcos as musical performances and shows entertain massive crowds throughout. And whichever way you approach it, it's dripping with true Mexican flair.
