As the third largest lake in Africa and with a wide range of water sports, boat trips and wildlife-spotting opportunities, Lake Malawi is by far the must-see attraction in the country.

At 1,250 square miles there’s quite a lot of Nyika National Park to get around. But, packed full of lions, elephants, zebras and especially leopards, even a short trip into it can yield up incredible wildlife sightings.

Stark changes in the vegetation and lots of wildlife - including black eagles, klipspringer and tiny antelope - make a visit to this 3,000 meter monadnock an unforgettable experience. Offering gentle hiking or more challenging routes for serious climbers, the Mount Mulanje Conservation Trust provides plenty of preparatory information.

The massive market in Malawi's capital provides travelers with plenty of souvenirs to take home as well as the must-have essentials for any holiday trip. Bargaining is often required (especially in the craft market), but traders are invariably friendly and engaging.

Karonga Museum's selection of ancient historical artifacts, though impressive, are somewhat overshadowed by the extensive collection of domestically recovered fossils in this museum. An excellent educational experience.
