Things to Do in Macedonia

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Macedonia? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Early Christian Basilicas, Stobi

These three Basilicas – which date back to the days of Roman control in the 5th and 6th centuries – are examples of religious grandeur on a most impressive scale.

2. Skopje Fortress

Nicknamed Kale, this fortress has been overlooking the River Varder for centuries. Although it was originally built during the Byzantine period in the 6th century, the area on which the fortress is constructed was a settlement site as long ago as 4,000 BC. Aside from its history, the fortress offers stupendous views of the city of Skopje

3. Canyon Adventures, Kolesino

If you thought that Macedonia was all sightseeing and no action, you were wrong! In Kolesino there are adventure tours that combine a number of archeological sites along the Varda River with a white-knuckle canyoning trip on the Kolesino waterfalls.

4. Macedonia National Museums, Skopje

This group of museums (which includes the Ethnographic Museum, Historical Museum and the Archeological Museum) documents Macedonia’s rich historical and cultural past.

5. Skopje Aqueduct

Uncertainty surrounds the Skopje Aqueduct; most people believe it was built during the Byzantine period, while others suggest that it was built by Turks in the 16th century. One thing’s for certain, however: the 55 arches and massive columns make an impressive spectacle.
