Riga Nightlife: Places and Districts to Go Out in Riga

Riga is less Westernized than some of its Baltic neighbors and, as such, can provide a more authentic nightlife experience than the cities which have become so popular for stag parties and cheap weekend breaks.

However, there are also plenty of chic, contemporary bars which have helped give the city it's reputation for a good night out. In this way, cocktail bars, dance clubs and old-fashioned drinking dens make up a varied scene.

The majority of venues are to be found in the Old Town, although the city's New Town is also lively. Rather more bohemian (and often cheaper), this part of Riga is typically popular with backpackers and travelers in Latvia.

There's also a seedy side to Riga's nightlife, with the numerous strip clubs and casinos attracting stag groups to the city. But, like Amsterdam or Paris, the kitsch neon lights are as much a part of the city as the fashionable new bars, and do little to detract from its charm.

As Riga's reputation grows, there's no doubt that more and more travelers will discover its attractions and the clubbing scene will continue to grow. But, for now, the pleasant mix of locals and visitors enhances the already enjoyable atmosphere; it's a city where warm hospitality is bound to win you over.
