5. Shiretoko National Park, Hokkaido
On the northeastern tip of Hokkaido, Shiretoko’s striking landscape includes a natural swathe of lakes, forests, cliffs and waterfalls. More natural springs can be found here, which allow for cleansing bathing sessions after long and demanding hikes.

A dormant volcano, Mount Fuji is one of Japan’s abiding symbols. Its amazingly symmetrical peak is covered in snow year-round, and can be seen from Tokyo on a clear day. It is possible to climb various routes up the mountain, which can take anywhere between three and eight hours.
