Things to Do in Kingston

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Things to Do in Kingston? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Lounge around on Lime Cay

The small, uninhabited island of Lime Cay is a short boat trip from Kingston. Once on the island, there are some lovely (and practically deserted) beaches to explore, and outstanding snorkeling off the reefs.

2. Dive Port Royal

During the 16th and 17th century Port Royal was the home of pirates and buccaneers and was known as ‘the wickedest city in the world’. Then in 1692, a huge earthquake struck and the city slipped into the sea. These days, keen divers can apply for a permit and dive the site of the city under the waves.

3. Spend an Afternoon Watching Sport

Sport is an incredibly important part of life in Jamaica, as indeed it is throughout the Caribbean. If a cricket match at Sabina Park is a little slow for you, then try and catch a ‘Reggae Boyz’ football match.

4. Head for Hellshire Beach

Kingston itself doesn’t have a beach worthy of the name, but about half an hour away, Hellshire Beach is excellent. The beach bars, specializing in fried fish, are worth the trip alone!

5. Visit Fort Charles

Kingston’s Fort Charles is an impressive 17th century affair which was once home to a young Horatio (later Admiral) Nelson. The (nominal) admission fee allows you to roam the battlements and fortifications, and includes entrance to the Maritime Museum.
