Things to Do in Sorrento

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Sorrento? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Up Pompeii!

With Mount Vesuvius looming moodily in the distance, the fabled ruins of Pompeii are only a 40 minute trip from Sorrento. The day-trip ticket also includes a visit to the nearby and similarly buried town of Herculaneum, which is less crowded and just as historic.

2. Dip in the Sea

Since Sorrento is a seaside resort, no trip here would be complete without a day or three spent on the beach. Bathing spots stretch along and around the cliff. And as this is the Mediterranean, the waters are clear and warm. What more could you want?

3. The Correale di Terranova Museum

Wander around this informative and relaxed museum at your own leisure. Based in a stately building (in fact, it’s a former palace), the museum exhibits a delightful mix of statues, antiques and arts. Walk all the way through and come across the well-cultivated gardens, which also make for a well-spent hour or so.

4. Love the Limoncello

Sorrento is surrounded by beautiful lemon groves. Take a trip to one and try the local aperitif at its source. The liquor is sweet and lemony, whilst its alcoholic content is happily vicious!

5. Explore the Streets, Shops and Eateries

Sorrento’s host of narrow streets are home to an intriguing mix of shops and boutiques. Take a day and window-shop Italian style (which means plenty of shopping accompanied by plenty of food and coffee).
