Things to Do in Siena

The Piazza del Campo is Siena’s most prominent attraction. Rated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the medieval square teems with people on a daily basis. It’s also the site of a historic horse race twice a year. So if you happen to be in Siena on July 2nd or August 16th, you’re in for a treat!

This 12th Century structure is a wonderful example of Italian Romanesque architecture. Inside, black and white striped marble columns give the Cathedral an almost cinematic feel. Be sure to check out the famous octagonal Gothic Pulpit.

Panforte is only baked in two towns… and Siena is one of them. It’s a thick and sweet cake made from honey, almonds and fruit. Find a café, order Panforte with espresso on the side, and watch the world go by as you say ‘Ciao’ to as many people as humanly possible.

Siena’s brilliant Jazz School hosts a festival every summer for two weeks. Concerts and jams take place in a variety of different locations; from small cafes to the Piazza del Camp itself.

Hire a car, or book a tour, and visit the wineries around Siena. Then, once you’ve had enough alcohol for one day, travel across to the Montestigliano Olive state, and try some near-perfect olive oil dribbled on tasty tidbits.
