Rome Nightlife: Places and Districts to Go Out in Rome

The Trevi Fountain at Night

Like most cities in continental Europe, Rome is as full of life by night as it is during the day. Italians – and Romans are absolutely no exception in this respect – love to party and, right across the city, the possibilities for nightlife in Rome are virtually endless.

Early on, many of the city's famed piazzas are lined with terrace bars where you can sit and soak up the atmosphere as night settles on the city. But for a more lively evening’s entertainment, Rome has plenty to offer, with bars and clubs open long into the night.

Over to the west of the city center, Piazza Navona is one of the more popular places for an evening out, with numerous bars surrounding the square and the roads running off it. And, after the bars close, crowds of people gather in the square to extend the night’s partying.

The labyrinth of alleys and lanes that makes up Travestere is another good bet. Packed with bars and clubs – many of which play live music – it’s the ideal part of town in which to experience a great nightlife scene, perfectly complemented by a gorgeous setting.

As the night goes on, more and more people seem to pour into the streets. The Campo di Fiori is a favorite hangout for the backpacking and student crowds: a bustling flower market during the day, it transforms into an even livelier scene at night.
Much of the club scene is focused around the brash ‘discoteche’ of Testaccio. A scruffy district to the south of the city, the area from Piramide metro station down towards the Via Ostiense contains the highest concentration.

Most nights of the week, but on weekends particularly, the city can explode in a spontaneous outburst of eating, drinking, music and dancing. And as it does so, its lofty monuments and statues seem to look down on it all with a faint air of disapproval.
