Getting Around Naples: Transport Tips and Advice

Transport in the City Center

From Naples International Airport, the ‘Alibus’ shuttle service runs directly to the center of the city. Once there, crowded central Naples offers public transport in the form of buses, trams, the ‘Metropolitana’ (underground) and funicular railway.

Fares for buses to Naples’ city center, which leave from the bustling Piazza Garibaldi in front of the central station, don’t cost much and are valid for 24 hours. These tickets can also be used on the trams, metro and funicular services.

The Metropolitana service is located downstairs at the train station. It has extensive lines running to Piazza Cavour, Piazza Amedeo, Campi Flegrei and other locations.

There are additional trains to take travelers to popular spots around Naples, including Pompeii and Sorento via the privately run ‘Circumvesuviana’. These services leave frequently from Napoli Centrale to the west of the city.
