Milan has three major airports: the Malpensa International Airport is 40 minutes on the Malpensa Express or an hour by the shuttle bus, Linate Airport is a little more convenient and caters for most European and domestic flights and Orio al Serio is about an hour’s bus ride from the city center.
In addition to its airports, Milan also has several major train stations for those planning to arrive by rail. The largest and most important of these is the Stazione Centrale which has links to and from most other Italian cities.
Once in the city, getting around is quite simple via trams, trains and the subway. The Milan Metro (the ‘MM’) is made up of three subway lines, with an additional light metro service. The tramway is one of the largest in the world and is extended further by a good suburban rail network.
As you’d expect in a wealthy city, taxis can be a bit on the expensive side. What’s more, because the number of licensed white cabs is strictly controlled, they can be hard to find during busy periods.
