From Dublin airport, you can take an Airlink Express service or a cheaper, slower public bus (No. 41, 41A) into the city center. Buses from the airport leave regularly, and there’s no need to buy a ticket in advance – just find the correct bus in front of Arrivals.
Taxis also operate along this route but are more expensive. Outside of Dublin, public transportation tends to suffer from being expensive and sporadic but getting around in the capital is relatively convenient and easy.
When they're not walking around the compact city center, Dubliners use the bus or the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport). The local bus network is extensive, providing cross-city access to shopping districts and sights as well as good service to the suburbs beyond.
Tickets can be bought on the bus and one-day passes are inexpensive for both the bus and DART. Additional late-night Nitelink buses run beyond the usual end of service till 2am, with hours extended further on Friday and Saturday.
