New Delhi Nightlife: Places and Districts to Go Out in New Delhi

The Red Fort, Delhi

Nightlife in New Delhi has come a long way in recent years due to the relaxation of the city's alcohol laws. This has seen a number of bars and discos open up, the majority of which can be found inside the big hotels such as those of swanky Connaught Place.

Travelers need to remember, though, that alcohol is extremely expensive in India. New Delhi is no Mumbai (as yet) and true party animals may be left feeling a little let down by the scene.

However, there is still plenty of entertainment to be had in the city after dark, from traditional tribal dancing at Parsi Anjunam Hall to the free ‘people’s parties’ that materialize around the city (mostly near India Gate) when locals congregate on the streets, eating and chatting.

In central Delhi, there's also the odd modern cocktail lounge, cool haunt or themed bar, but many are often empty (except on weekends) and close by midnight.

Ultimately, though, few travelers come to India for its sophisticated Western-style club scene. And what makes the nightlife in New Delhi stand out is the continuing sense of hustle, bustle and energy that pervades the city - and country - at all times of day or night.
