Things to Do in Iceland

This established UNESCO World Heritage site draws travelers from all around the world to gaze in awe at its stunning scenery. It's also the site of the world's first parliament, the Althing.

Using hot natural springs as its source, this unique building provides heating for the whole of the Icelandic capital, as well as doubling up as the Saga Museum. The architecture is just as striking, as are the 360 degree views from its viewing platform.

Opened in 1986, this church took 40 years to build and is visible from almost any point in the city. Its 73 meter tower offers excellent city views and overlooks the main shopping area of Laugavegur.

This museum prides itself on the diversity of the displays, allowing visitors to dwell on the ‘past, present and future’ of the country. Of particular interest is the photographic display, comprising 1.6 million amateur and professional pictures collected between 1866-1993.

Open to visitors between May and September, this beach was reopened in 2000 to coincide with the city's crowning as European City of Culture. The waters are warmed by the run-off from the city's heating system, which ensures that an average year-round water temperature of 20 degrees is maintained.
