Getting to and from Budapest International Airport (which lies about ten miles south of the city center) can be a bit tricky. The airport does charter passengers in vans directly to their hostel or hotel but space is limited and it’s not particularly cheap.
Another option is the airport bus, marked “BKV Plusz Repter Busz” which is time-consuming but very affordable. It stops at Kobanya-Kispest metro station and, from there, you can catch the blue metro line into the center of town.
There are also three large railway stations in the city – the eastern, western and southern –which all cater for both international travel and routes around Hungary. Sadly, however, travelers can no longer visit Budapest on the Orient Express as the service stopped in 2001.
Once in the city, transport gets much simpler; an impressive Metro system efficiently ferries both residents and travelers around. It's the second eldest subway network in Europe, with the original yellow line now restored to its former condition and almost a historical attraction in its own right.
