Want to know some of the standout things to do in Honduras? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Lago de Yojoa

This 285 square kilometers worth of lake is situated between Honduras' largest cities, Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. Very popular for fishing (and generally relaxing) among Hondurans, it boasts 400 bird and 800 plant species.

2. Cayos Cochinos, Bay Islands

Known as the ‘Meso’, this is the second largest barrier reef in the world. The three main bay islands of Roatan, Utila and Guanja are the best way to see the reef, with a host of fantastic diving and snorkeling opportunities.

3. Copan Ruinas

The extensive remains of Copan (5th-9th century AD) are amongst the most remarkable Mayan sites in Central America. In addition to an extensive series of underground tunnels, the vast Grand Plaza and the Acropolis, there's also a court where the fascinating Mesoamerican Ballgame was once played. Unmissable.

4. Corn Festival, Danli

Taking place over the last week of August this festival makes incredibly good use of the country's maize crop surplus. In addition to the huge variety of corn-based dishes, there are sporting activities available throughout the week culminating in an all-night street party.

5. Tela

Situated between the three national parks of Lancetilla Botanical gardens, Punto Izopo wildlife refuge and Jeanette Kawas and surrounded by beaches, this city is enormously popular among both travelers and locals.
