Antigua Carnival - Guatemala

The Antigua Carnival explodes onto the island at the end of July and runs into early August. A joyous celebration of the emancipation from slavery, the Antigua Carnival heralds as much color, vibrancy and joie de vivre as you’d expect from a festival hosted by this effervescent little island.
An all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza, it's packed with ten days of parades, beauty pageants and performances where all and sundry descend upon the streets of St. John’s for some wholehearted and carefree carnival revelry.
The Antigua Carnival is all about spontaneity and travelers are more than welcome to join in with the celebrations. The only tip? Don’t wear your best outfit – it’s hot, and there’s a lot of flying water!
