Things to Do in Greece

The Goddess Athena’s temple, the Parthenon, dates back to 5 BC. It sits commandingly above the city of Athens, providing a lasting testament to a truly great society.

The highest mountain in Greece, Mount Olympus was also the home of the Gods in Greek mythology. Home to various rare flora, it can be climbed taking the town of Litochoro as a starting point.

The site of the original Olympic Games in Classical times has been excavated and restored over the past two centuries. The Olympic torch is still lit here before being carried by foot to the hosting country of the Modern Games.

The Minoan Palace at Knossos, just outside the city of Heraklion, is reputedly the site of the labyrinth that held the half-man/half-bull known in Greek mythology as the Minotaur. A large Bronze Age site, its function for the Minoan people is currently the source of an energetic debate.

The stunning site at Meteora is home to a complex of monasteries built into large sandstone rocks back in the 13th century. While a few monks still live in the six monasteries, the buildings now function predominantly as museums.
