Santorini Island Nightlife: Places and Districts to Go Out in Santorini Island

A Summer's Night on Santorini

If Greece is a country that really knows how to have a good time, then the Greek Islands, with their summer onslaught of partiers, are particularly prone to this hedonistic streak. And Santorini is, if anything, at the forefront of this great wave of pleasure-seeking that sweeps across the Mediterranean.

Fira and Oia have fashionable scenes geared up for the many wealthy visitors to the island. Although the swanky restaurants and bars open out on to what are, admittedly, the most magnificent views, their primary purpose seems to be providing a viewpoint rather than a good time.

Santorini isn’t necessarily the cheapest place to buy a round of drinks. As is the case with eating out on the island, though, if you can bear to forgo that balcony with the stunning views, you can make significant savings.

Dive down a back street and all the towns and villages of Santorini also boast any number of charmingly intimate little haunts with low ceilings, uneven floors and a pleasant rough and ready vibe.

A good pointer for the budget-conscious is the drinks board that stands outside most Santorini bars. If you see Mythos, the local Greek beer, being advertised, it’s a good sign that you’re on the right track when it comes to the price.

Down on the coast, the strip of resort towns that runs through Perissa, Perivolos, Kamari and Monolithos can be lively, as well as more affordable. Ultimately, though, there are few nightlife experiences that can match sitting in a beach bar watching the moon rise above the water – Santorini’s definitely got all that, and much more…
