Overview to Ios Island: Travel Guide and Tourist Information

An Idyllic Ios Beach

Standing out in Greece as a place that likes to have a good time is truly an achievement. Ios, though, is the party island of party islands, and its nightlife scene is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Ios Town is broken up into three distinct areas: Hora, Gialos and Mylopatos Beach. Of these, Hora is party central – the heart of darkness, so to speak – and the bars and clubs in the old village heave with giddy, sun-soaked revelers.

Gialos, the port area, has a more laidback air with some quieter restaurants and bars. The beach of Mylopotas, while extremely attractive, is also extremely popular (not least for its beach bars) and may be a little busy for some travelers.

There are also, naturally, some fantastic and relatively unspoilt beaches on Ios. Manganari and Kalamos are among the better, and longer, strips of sand on the island. Koumbara is a good spot for windsurfing, while at the northernmost point of the island, there’s a trio of stunning little coves at Plakes, Papa and Treis Elikes.

For something a little more cultural, Ios is home to an archaeological museum, as well as what’s held (somewhat controversially) to be the last resting place of Homer. Many though, won't find time to fit these sights in around their busy partying schedule; Ios is an island that just doesn’t know when to stop.
