Want to know some of the standout things to do in Germany? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...
1. The Reichstag Building, Berlin
The Reichstag Building was purpose-built to house the German Parliament. Today, it's still their home, along with an impressive glass dome courtesy of British architect Sir Norman Foster.
2. The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was erected in 1961 and fell in 1989. During the intervening thirty-or-so years, it acted as a localized symbol for the 'Cold War' between East and West that was being waged. Small sections of the wall still stand, along with an impressive museum.
3. Cologne Cathedral
The massive Gothic cathedral in Cologne took over six hundred years to build. Having stood in its present form since 1880, the cathedral is one of the largest and most splendid Christian structures, and the climb up its spire offers some truly awe-inspiring panoramic views.
4. Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau
This 19th century Bavarian Palace (commissioned by Ludwig II in honor of his muse Richard Wagner) is one of Germany’s most visited attractions.
5. The Black Forest
A densely forested and mountainous area that covers around 12,000 square kilometers, the Black Forest is perfect for long or short hiking trips. The area is dotted with villages, whilst the town of Baden-Baden lies just on its outskirts.
