Tampere Illuminations - Finland
When: 17 October 2009 - 06 January 2010
The Finnish town of Tampere lights up travelers’ eyes every winter with its delightful annual illuminations burning brightly in the Nordic night. From November through to Twelfth Night (6th January), the darkest days of winter are lit by 40,000 light bulbs hung high above the city’s streets.
The illuminations first sparked into life in 1965 as part of an enlightened initiative from the South Finnish city’s Town Council. It’s now a popular phenomenon both with Tampere’s 200,000 residents and with travelers from across the globe.
