Overview to Nadi: Travel Guide and Tourist Information
As is the case throughout Fiji, the people of Nadi are friendly, the weather is perfect and the mixture of indigenous and Indo-Fijian cultures is fascinating. But the town is best-known as the home of Fiji’s international airport, and that’s the reason why many travelers come here.
Attractions include the large Hindu Temple of Sri Siva Subramanlya and, frankly, not much else. While it’s a great little town, the main appeal lies in its proximity to Fiji’s other unmatchable riches nearby.
And Nadi is, inarguably, wonderfully located. Surrounded on all sides by hundreds of volcanic islands, their coasts dotted with beautiful beaches and backed by swaying palm trees. Spread across this idyllic setting, there are plenty of traditional villages to be explored.
Like Fiji generally, it’s also a fantastic place for diving (and snorkeling) excursions and several companies in Nadi offer all manner of daytrips and boat tours. Reefs of stunning coral and wonderfully colorful fish lie in every direction, begging to be explored.
Surfing also features pretty highly on the agenda of many backpackers flying into Nadi. The wild pacific waves that crash on Viti Levu make for some of the world’s best surfing at the Tavarua and Namotu areas, as well as the world-famous 'Cloud Break'.
Really, though, a stay in Nadi is like being on the verge of something monumental; it’s impossible, over a 'kava' or two in the evening, not to feel a great sense of anticipation and excitement at what lies ahead. And for that alone it’s noteworthy.
