Overview to Tallinn: Travel Guide and Tourist Information

Tallinn

Watch out PragueTallinn is becoming increasingly popular with travelers looking for those romantic breaks and wild party weekends! The small but delicately put together city on the Baltic offers a wonderful mix of history, culture and hedonism; the result is a truly enchanting traveling prospect.

Visitors will be forgiven for spending much of their time in Tallinn’s Old Town, home to most of the city's attractive architecture as well as some of the liveliest bars and cafés. Pedestrianized and well-preserved, the area makes for some wonderful romantic exploration.

Out to the east, the Viru Gate marks the historic entrance into Tallinn’s Old Town and leads on to Viru Street, the swankiest shopping stretch. At the far end of Viru Street sits the Raekoja Plats, the beating heart of the city.

Stuffed with chilled cafés, this quaint cobbled square is home to the Gothic Town Hall. The neighboring Photography Museum is worth a look, whilst across the square the Town Council Pharmacy also hosts a small historic museum.

A rash of sightseeing attractions spreads out just to the north, including the Church of the Holy Ghost, the Peter & Paul Church and the fascinating City Museum. Out to the west, meanwhile, Toompea Hill and its castle can be seen from any point in the Old Town.

The hill can be accessed by traversing the Pikk Jalg, which will take you up and past the grandiose Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Opposite the cathedral, Toompea Castle boasts great views over the spires of the Old Town and the beautiful green spaces that lie beyond the city walls.

When the various sights of Tallinn have been exhausted, the recently reinvigorated nightlife is on hand. And whether it's for beer-fueled stag parties, chic lounge bars or just a magical stroll through the moonlit streets, Tallinn's arguably even more special after dark!
