Want to know some of the standout things to do in London? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...
1. Meander along the 'Millennium Mile'
A stroll along the South Bank of the River Thames has everything from fantastic views of Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tower of London to close-ups of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern. On weekends, there's a book market and street performers. Not forgetting the British Film Theatre and the London Eye… The list goes on and on.
2. Hunt for a Bargain at the Markets
London is heaving with wonderful markets: antiques and bric-a-brac at Portobello, fashion at Brick Lane and Camden, jewelry and knick-knacks in Covent Garden, and food at Borough Market to name but a few of the big ones...
3. The Bright Lights of Soho…
No stay in London would be complete without a night out in the fleshpots of the West End and, particularly, Soho.
4. Have a Picnic on Hampstead Heath
Not so much a park as some 800 acres of rolling hillside, forests, ponds and grassland in the middle of London. The best place for a long outdoor lunch with great views of the city below.
5. Find the Free Art
Not so long ago, the British government made a large selection of its art galleries free. Which means you can gaze at the Bacons and Picassos of the Tate Modern, or the older works of the National Gallery, without paying a penny. And it’s not just the art galleries, either: there’s a wealth of fantastic museums, from the Natural History Museum to the Science Museum, that are also free to all.
