Royal Chelsea Flower Show - England
When: 25 May 2010 - 29 May 2010
The Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show in May is one of the most spectacular and glamorous events in Britain. It has been held at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea since 1913.
The event is epic in scale and comparable only to Ascot in terms of summer extravagance. At least 8,000 bottles of champagne, 20,000 glasses of Pimms and 35,000 rounds of sandwiches are consumed over the five day event.
Around 157,000 visitors attend the show and there’s a royal visit on the preview day (usually the Monday). Pavilions and other constructions are elaborately put together to showcase the year's pieces.
Recently there have been sculptures, sustainable garden furniture displays and the more traditional flower demonstrations. Overall, the showground covers 11 acres and more than 250 species of new plants are launched at the festival every year.
