The Iconic Sea of Tents at Glasto
Glastonbury Festival - England
When: 23 June 2010 - 27 June 2010
One of the largest music festivals on the planet, Glastonbury is renowned worldwide for its three nights of utterly hedonistic revelry. With nearly 200,000 people packed around the many stages and tents, Glastonbury lives long in the memory of all who go.
The first thing to consider if you want to be part of the action is that getting a ticket can require quite extensive planning! There’s a multitude of security measures in place to stop touts but tickets tend to sell out within a couple of hours of their release.
With arrangements changing year to year, the best bet is to keep checking the offical website to keep up-to-date with ticketing plans for the upcoming festival. You may need to sign up to the website before the tickets themselves actually go on sale.
The festival usually takes place over the summer solstice at the end of June and some of the biggest names in the music world play here every year; recent headliners include Radiohead, The Killers, The White Stripes and Basement Jaxx.
In truth, though, Glastonbury isn’t just about the big bands. There’s such a wealth of music and talent here that most people spend their weekend just wandering around finding new genres to listen to and new people to chat with.
And it’s important to remember that the festival’s roots lie firmly in the hippy counter-culture of the 70s. It’s been fed on a diet of peace and love since the very beginning and most revelers rank meeting new, and often strange, people as the top of their festival priorities.
