The best way to get to and from the airport is by taxi, although for a fraction of the price you can take a bus or minibus into the center of Cairo.
To travel from one sight to another, it’s easiest to use your feet and a good map! Taxis are abundant but to avoid getting ripped off you should agree the price beforehand. Also, remember that single women should sit in the back. Alternatively, the metro is fairly cheap and straightforward. Tickets can be bought inside the station and should be kept until you exit.
Again, as Egypt is an Islamic country, certain rules apply – the first car of every train is reserved for women only. The bus isn’t an advisable form of transport for the average traveler as, while it is very cheap, it’s also very crowded and hard to navigate… Unless you can read or speak Arabic, that is!
