Copenhagen Nightlife: Places and Districts to Go Out in Copenhagen

Copenhagen

In recent years, Copenhagen nightlife has acquired something of a reputation on the European clubbing scene. It’s the perfect city for night owls, as things rarely get started until after midnight and continue at break-neck speed until the sun comes up.

There are hundreds of decent bars in Copenhagen and it’s hard to know where to start. With so much choice the best thing may be to do as the Danes do, and take a walk under the stars to soak up the ambience and see where the mood takes you.

Copenhagen's nightlife scene is spread right across the city. There are, though, a couple of key areas; the Nyhavn, a little to the north of the city center, has been regenerated in the last 25 years and is now the site of a number of great bars and restaurants.

A little further afield, Vesterbro is also home to a number of lively (and cheaper) places. The Sank Hans Torv area of Norrebro, meanwhile, is home to a number of popular clubs, as well a few live music venues that lay on Danish bands.

However, nights out in Copenhagen are not exclusively wild and hedonistic. There are also a number of atmospheric traditional beer houses and wine cellars in Osterbro where the mood is a little more sedate.

During the summer months, visitors can sit out at the café tables and watch the world go by. A popular neighborhood for this more relaxed sort of night out is Christianshavn, whose cobbled streets contain an array of vibrant bars and restaurants.

Ultimately, though, Copenhagen is constantly changing and there are always new clubs, bars and restaurants springing up all over the city. But one thing seems unlikely to change: the views and the vibe of Copenhagen as a whole.
