Copenhagen has an extensive public transit network consisting of a metro system (called S-train) whose 11 lines pass through Central Station. A rail system was also recently constructed to link Kastrup AIrport with Central Station, with services now running three times an hour.
Public transport in the city is more than adequate, with an extensive network of commuter trains. Like many other cities, Copenhagen’s ticket system is based on the number of zones you pass through. You can purchase a 'klippekort' which is good for ten rides in two zones, or a 24-hour pass for unlimited travel in all zones.
However, as prices are a little on the high side, the system is less well used than in other countries and many residents opt for more self-powered methods of getting around.
Copenhagen is a compact city with an extensive network of pedestrianized areas, making it ideal for exploration by foot. The city also has a massive cycling culture and is regarded as one of the most bike-friendly in the world. Bikes can be cheaply rented across the city and then left at various depositories.
