Things to Do in Havana

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Havana? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Heaven is the Habana Vieja

Old Havana, in all its crumbling finery, classic cars and inescapable rhythms, is a delight to walk around. Cubans live their lives publicly, so take a stroll and become a part of it.

2. Take the Advice of Ernest Hemingway – Drink Rum!

The Bodeguita del Medio and the nearby La Floridita may be a little touristy these days, but Papa’s advice is still sound: There are mojitos and daiquiris to be drunk all over town, and somebody’s got to drink them.

3. Visit the Museo de la Revolución

Who’d have thought that the roots of the Revolution lay all the way back in the 14th century. This extensive history of the events leading to Cuban independence is housed in the former Presidential palace.

4. Meander along the Malécon

Famous landmarks, beautiful buildings and Habaneros hanging out line one side of the city’s irregular coastline. And on the other side of this walkway? The crashing waves and piercing blue of the ocean.

5. Go Crazy at Carnival

Carnival is the time of year when the city, rarely less than lively, really lets its hair down and has a good time. If colorful costumes, parades, loud music, dancing and gallons and gallons of rum sound good to you, head for Havana in August.
