Things to Do in Zagreb

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Zagreb? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. Take a Stroll Down Tkalciceva Ulica

One of the oldest and most attractive streets in Zagreb, Tkalciceva divides the Gradec (Upper Town) from the Kaptol. In the evening the surrounding area is full of atmospheric bars.

2. Jarun Lake

Jarun Lake, a ten minute cab ride from the city, is Zagreb’s recreational center. During the summer, the city’s inhabitants all flock here to soak up the rays, eat, drink and be merry. The lakeside bars boast some of the best nightlife to be had in the city.

3. The Bloody Bridge

Krvavi Most, the ‘Bloody Bridge’, is most notable for not being a bridge at all, but a street. Its ‘bloody’ tag, however, isn’t in doubt. Its name commemorates the many past battles between warring Zagreb factions.

4. Shop for Groceries at Dolac Market

Like all good markets, Zagreb’s open air market is as much a fascinating spectacle as a place to do your shopping. That’s not to say that there isn’t an incredible array of fresh produce, rather that, with its color and endless activity, it plays a more important role – the city’s lifeblood.

5. Make for Medvednica

Not far from Zagreb, the forests of the vast National Park of Medvednica (or Bear Mountain) stretch away. One of several great forests that reach across Central and Eastern Europe, there’s an incredible sense of calm under the canopy of trees.
