Things to Do in Pula

Want to know some of the standout things to do in Pula? Then have a look through our handpicked suggestions below...

1. The Roman Amphitheatre

This amazing structure is still the beating heart of Pula after 21,000 years. It’s the sixth largest in the world and the only Amphitheatre to have all four of its side towers fully preserved. Visit by day, or mingle by night.

2.Hold Forth at Forum Square

The center of the Old Quarter was once a Roman Forum. It’s now a relaxed town square with outside cafes. Have a coffee and gaze at the adjacent 1st Century Temple of August, or the 10th Century City Hall.

3.Go for a Dip in the Adriatic

The Adriatic’s waters are crystal clear and delightfully warm. The nearby Bura Beach has a vibrant atmosphere for those who like to soak up the rays by day, and chill to the sound of the lapping waves by night.

4.Try the Truffles

The tuber truffle is Pula’s delicacy. Extracted from the ground by trained ‘truffle dogs’, they are then used in dishes to add a rich flavor and earthy aroma. The truffles are a notorious aphrodisiac, so be careful who you share them with!

5.The Statue of an Artist as a Middle-aged Traveler

The famed Irish writer James Joyce taught English in Pula whilst working on a satirical paper called the Holy Office. Check out the statue of him outside his favorite café. Maybe he could be your muse?
